It is impossible to imagine any religious system without its inherent ritual component. At the same time, given the polysemy and contextuality of the concept of "ritual", I immediately propose a limitation, which is extremely important for the methodology of disclosure of the topic. It is an interpretation of the ritual in the light of W. Robertson Smith's research setting. Accordingly, this concept becomes an identifier of religious practice, or more precisely, a designation of traditionally established and authoritatively supported various (...) religious practices. Accordingly, we draw attention to the versatility of the term "ritual", which is used to fix religious practices, ceremonial activities and ceremonies. (shrink)

In recent years many textbooks and manuals on religious studies have been published in Ukraine. However, one of them deserves special attention because of the frank and even brazen appropriation of the author by the author of the meaningful potential not only of national scholars but also of the classics of world religious studies. It is a textbook of Ya.Chernenko's "Religious Studies: A Theoretical and Practical Course", which was published in 2005 in the Kiev publishing house "Professional" with a circulation (...) of 800 copies. I would like to point out that this guide was recommended by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine for higher education students. (shrink)

This statement is confined to the prose of the philosophy of religion, since it raises questions that concern both the conceptual status of the discipline and its definition in the substantive and formal aspects. The philosophy of religion is also considered in view of its structural completeness. I hope that the proposed interpretation of the above-mentioned questions will enable the researcher, who is interested in religious studies, to enter the realm of such autonomous disciplinary education as the philosophy of religion.

Department of Philosophy of Religion The Department of Religious Studies of IF NASU during 2006-2008 carried out the specified planned theme. Below we present its sections in the summary. The full study material will be published in the monograph under the same title, which will be published by the end of 2009. The book can be used as a textbook on religious studies.

The correspondence between the philosopher Theodor W. Adorno and his politically active graduate student Elisabeth Lenk offers fresh insights into both Adorno's view of surrealism and its relation to the student uprisings of 1960s France and Germany. Written between 1962, when Lenk moved to Paris and persuaded an initially reluctant Adorno to supervise her sociology dissertation on the surrealists, and Adorno's death in 1969, these letters reveal a surprisingly tender side of the distinguished professor. The correspondence is accompanied by a (...) selection of documents that bring additional depth and context to the letters and their engagement with the art and politics of the period. Filling in the background of Adorno and Lenk's lively exchange, the volume includes new translations of classic essays by Walter Benjamin ("Surrealism: Last Snapshot of the European Intelligentsia") and Adorno ("Surrealism Reconsidered"), along with a collection of short prose readings by Adorno and the writer-scholar Carl Dreyfus and three original essays by Lenk: her afterword to Paris Peasant by Louis Aragon, her Introduction to the German edition of Charles Fourier's The Theory of the Four Movements and the General Destinies, and her incisive essay "Critical Theory and Surreal Practice." Whether they were or were not adequate to establish the point I was seeking to make I leave to the judgement of others, but the idiom possesses interest of its own, and it seems worth while to quote some further instances of it that I have noted since my article appeared. L'A. soutient, contre Germain Grisez, Joseph Boyle, John Finnis et William May, que le contrôle naturel des naissances pratiqué avec une intention mauvaise n'est pas contraception. Il montre que les auteurs identifient de façon incorrecte la fin prochaine de la contraception comme choix qu'il n'y ait pas d'enfant, alors que la fin prochaine véritable est d'empêcher un enfant de venir au monde . Ainsi donc, puisque en NFP un couple ne cherche pas à empêcher la venue au monde d'un enfant, (...) NFP n'implique pas d'action contraceptive.
